A ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Is In The Works According To Dolly Parton

A 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Reboot Is In The Works According To Dolly Parton

It’s Still Coming

After almost thirty years since the popular supernatural TV show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer began, it is coming back with a reboot. Dolly Parton was a part of the original show as a producer, so she gave some insider information about the awaited return.

Where it All Began

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was originally a movie that aired in 1992. Buffy was played by Kristy Swanson. The show only began in 1997, but ran for seven seasons. From there, Sarah Michelle Gellar took over the role of female icon Buffy Summers. As for whether or not Gellar would return to the role of Buffy, she has spoken about the fact that she would not become Buffy again. Gellar told SFX Magazine last year that “I am very proud of the show that we created and it doesn’t need to be done.” She further remarked: “We wrapped that up.” Even though Gellar has no interest in reprising the role of Buffy again, she doesn’t have anything against a reboot. She further stated that “I am all for them continuing the story, because there’s the story of female empowerment. I love the way the show was left: ‘Every girl who has the power can have the power.’ It’s set up perfectly for someone else to have the power. But… the metaphors of Buffy were the horrors of adolescence. I think I look young, but I am not an adolescent.” According to Bloody Disgusting, Gellar told Evan Ross Katz, the writer of Into Every Generation a Slayer Is Born: How Buffy Staked Our Hearts, that her first pick for the next Buffy would be the legendary Zendaya.

A Reimagined Buffy

It’s unclear what the storyline of a new Buffy series would follow. There has been talk about a remake for years, and the original cast has certainly aged out of being the main characters. If any of them did return, they would probably be background characters. They could possibly assist the new Buffy on her journey to being a vampire slayer. Dolly Parton made it clear that fans should not worry about the reboot falling through. Dolly told Business Insider in a recent interview: “They’re still working on that.” She further detailed that “They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it.” Even Gellar has said that the original series left it perfectly open for a new girl to come in and claim the power, but will the power be claimed?

Stay tuned for more information about the reboot, as it is still coming.
