From Taming Dragons to Saving People With a Famous Cousin

From House of the Dragon to the newest member of the DC Universe! Another perfect casting by James Gunn.

From Dragons to Heroes

Actress Milly Alcock, from the HBO series House of the Dragon, has landed one of the most coveted roles in 2024. She is confirmed to be playing the Woman of Steel herself, Supergirl, in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. There were many top names rumored to be screen testing for the prestigious role, but ultimately, Alcock got the role.

The Australian-born actress played the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon. This role is probably what most fans know her for. No doubt it helped make her name. Alcock beat out other actresses like Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly.

There have also been rumors that Supergirl will appear in the upcoming Superman film Superman Legacy. However, this is not confirmed and could only be something floating around online. What is known is that she will appear in a DC-related project and then star in her own film. No director has been announced for the Supergirl project yet, but the title for the film is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

DC Is Coming Together…Finally

It was close to a year ago when the world found out that the DCEU was ending, and from its ashes would rise the DC Universe. Since then, fans have received other exciting news, like James Gunn taking over the reins and the fate of the DC product in theaters. Other news was not so welcoming, like when fans learned Superman, Henry Cavill, would not be returning as the Savior of Metropolis.

Gunn has been open about his desires for the DC Universe and celebrates every casting or decision with fans. He even posted on his Instagram about the new casting decision for Milly Alcock to play Supergirl. “In our series, we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible was for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing,” Gunn wrote in his post.
