A Tarot Card Reading Goes Horribly Wrong In The Trailer For Sony’s ‘Tarot’

The Production Company That Brought the ‘Underworld’ Series Returns With A Curse

Sony Pictures has recently released their first official trailer for their new film, Tarot, written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg. Set to reach theaters on May 10th, 2024, this new horror film will show a variety of known actors and will feature unique monster designs by the horror artist Trever Henderson. Though it is still fresh information to the public, there is excitement to be had for a film brought forth from the minds behind some of the genre’s most known features.

Tarot has started its press off strong simply by the crew behind it. Spenser Cohen, most popular for writing Moonfall (2022), is the writer and director for the film alongside Anna Halberg, who has worked alongside Cohen on Extinction (2018) and Blink (2022). Sony Pictures Entertainment and their production company Screen Gems (known for the Underworld series, the Hostel series, and the Resident Evil film series) will be distributing and producing the film. Deadline Hollywood revealed in a Summer 2022 article that the film, originally titled Horrorscope, had begun.

There is also a new member of the horror film community to be welcomed. Trevor Henderson, a horror artist made famous online with his Sirenhead character, joined the project to invent and detail the monsters’ appearances in the movie. With only quick snippets in the trailer, there is not yet to be seen of the new exciting creatures, but looking at Henderson’s previous illustrations gives frightful ideas.

What to Expect

Tarot tells the story of a group of friends who break the unforgivable rule of tarot readings, which is to not read from another’s deck. After ignoring this policy, a curse is brought forth upon them. The cast includes familiar faces such as Avantika, Jacob Batalon, Harriet Slater, and Olwen Fouere.

The film is based on a 1992 novel by Nicholas Adams called Horrorscope (also the original proposed title of the film). According to Goodreads, he has written numerous teen horror novels, including a series titled Horror High.

Tarot will be released to theaters on May 10th, 2024. For now, horror fans can catch a sneak peek through Sony Pictures’ official trailer for the film.
