“Goosebumps” Gets Renewed for Season 2

Beware Viewers...

Three months after the season finale, Disney+’s “Goosebumps” has been officially renewed for a second season.

The Beginning

Goosebumps originally premiered on Disney+ and Hulu on October 13, 2023, releasing the first five episodes simultaneously before switching to a weekly release for the remaining episodes. Based on the children’s book series by R.L. Stine, the Disney+ series was developed by Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller. Before working on the television series, Letterman directed the 2015 Goosebumps film starring Jack Black; however, currently, the series doesn’t include any ties to the previous two films. Instead of being an anthology like the 1995 series, where each episode adapts one of the original Goosebumps books, the latest rendition took a serialized route, which may be scrapped in the upcoming season.

Goosebumps follows a group of high schoolers as they investigate strange and supernatural phenomena. They discover that the occurrences are tied to a house where a teen died tragically decades before. When the new English teacher, Nathan Bratt (Justin Long), moves into the house, he finds himself dragged into the mystery. As the teens begin their inquiry into the young man’s death, they dig up old, dark secrets from their parents’ past. Now, Goosebumps Season 2 is confirmed.

Season 2 is Coming

Despite the first season’s finale ending with a cliffhanger, it doesn’t appear those loose threads will be wrapped up soon. At the Television Critics Association’s Winter 2024 press tour, the Branded Television president for Disney, Ayo Davis, announced the renewal. However, Davis noted that it was renewed as an anthology, not a continuation. Instead of consisting of ten episodes, like the previous season, Season 2 will have eight episodes, as well as an entirely new cast and setting.

“Audiences everywhere fell in love with the series’ chills, thrills, heart, and humor, making it one of Disney Branded Televison’s most-watched shows of last year,” Davis said. “We can’t wait to dive deeper into the brilliant mind of R.L. Stine and to collaborate once again with Sony Pictures Television, Scholastic Entertainment, and our fantastic creative team to bring an entirely new mystery to Disney+ for Season 2.”

Following the announcement, the official synopsis teasing the forthcoming season was released. “Teenage siblings discover a threat within their home, setting off a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in a story of five teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”

As of now, the release date for Goosebumps Season 2 is unknown.

Goosebumps Season 1 is currently streaming on Disney+.
