The TVA Brings Wade Wilson Into the MCU as the Teaser Trailer For ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Arrives

Will the Movie Redeem Marvel Studios?

The trailer for one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year was finally released.

During Sunday’s Super Bowl, Disney released a teaser for Deadpool & Wolverine, the only film slated for release this year from Marvel Studios. After 20th Century Fox was bought by Disney in 2019, the X-Men characters were brought under the Marvel umbrella, bringing the infamous Merc with a Mouth with them, making Deadpool & Wolverine the first film in the franchise to be produced by Disney.

The Trailer’s Set-Up

While just a teaser trailer, the snippets shown help demonstrate how Marvel is planning to pull Deadpool into their cinematic universe. The teaser begins with Wade celebrating his birthday surrounded by various characters from the previous two films, including Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Blind Al, and Dopinder. Most notably shown in this scene were Vanessa, Peter, and Shatterstar, who were all killed during the events of Deadpool 2, only for their deaths to be undone in the post-credit scene.

After this introduction, the TVA (Time Variance Authority), who made their debut on the Disney+ series Loki, arrive at Wade’s doorstep, paving the way for Deadpool to merge with the rest of the Marvel Universe. Why the TVA is visiting Deadpool is yet to be revealed, but it likely will be a result of Wade messing with the timeline in the Deadpool 2 post-credit scene.

Easter Eggs

The trailer is packed with teases and cameos that will surely leave fans speculating until the film’s release. From a quick shot of Pyro played by Aaron Stanford, who portrayed the character in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, to Deadpool possibly killing TVA agents in the same location where Wolverine died in 2017’s Logan, the trailer teases the possibility of Deadpool traveling the multiverse.

Other morsels from the trailer have been left up for debate. For example, one shot includes a masked character who resembles Doctor Doom but is likely someone else. Additional references sprinkled throughout the trailer include the bottle of soda Stan Lee is shown drinking in The Incredible Hulk, a Secret Wars comic, possibly the back of Professor X’s head, and numerous others. Over the course of the next five months, expect countless rumors and speculations to spread online as fans propose their own theories.

Deadpool & Wolverine releases in theaters on July 26, 2024.
