‘Bumblebee’ Director In Talks To Direct Live-Action ‘Masters of the Universe’ Film

Good News For He-Man Fans!

The upcoming Masters of the Universe live-action reboot was announced a while ago, but the project is more alive than ever – and it looks like it just found its director.

Travis Knight Is In Final Talks To Direct The Movie

According to several Deadline reports, Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee) is in final talks to helm the film’s reins. The deal is not closed yet, and of course, the film is still at sea with several parts of the project still coming together, but it all points towards Knight being the number one choice to direct. A first synopsis, which tentatively hints at a possible plot, has been released as well and reveals that “This film revolves around when Prince Adam was 9-years-old, he crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his Magical Sword – the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: The most powerful man in the Universe!” (via Deadline).

What Else Do We Know About The Movie?

The movie is centered around the beloved Mattel toy line and subsequently animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which saw the 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man among its adaptations. Although the film ended up being a commercial failure, it gained a cult following over the years and talks about a reboot dating back to the early 2000s. The project has been stuck in development hell ever since – while at some point it looked like it might have found its lead in Noah Centineo, who was attached to play He-Man, the project was later pulled from Sony’s schedule, with Centineo exiting the project in April 2021.

Amazon MGM Studios, Mattel, and Escape Artist produce the upcoming movie.

Stay tuned for more news about the Masters of the Universe reboot.
