WWE Founder Vince McMahon Steps Down From TKO Group Amidst Accusations of Sexual Assault and Trafficking

WWE Founder Vince McMahon Steps Down From TKO Group Amidst Accusations of Sexual Assault and Trafficking

From Allegations to Lawsuits, McMahon has Chosen to Resign

Vince McMahon has recently been reported to have resigned from his positions at both of his companies. McMahon held positions at WWE as founder and TKO Group Holdings, where he was executive chairman of the board. This information was confirmed by both the company and CNBC.

McMahon received sexual assault and trafficking allegations toward the end of January. However, his resignation was reported to be not out of acknowledgment of these allegations, but out of his respect for his companies. His statement in late January reported, “Out of respect for the WWE Universe, the extraordinary TKO business and its board members and shareholders, partners and constituents, and all of the employees and Superstars who helped make WWE into the global leader it is today, I have decided to resign from my executive chairmanship and the TKO board of directors, effective immediately.”

McMahon’s Allegations

Janel Grant has been the latest to file a lawsuit against McMahon. According to Marca,  Grant joined the WWE in 2019 and experienced increasingly appropriate behavior from McMahon; Grant joined their headquarters branch specifically.

Grant spoke on the physical, psychological, and emotional torture he caused her. McMahon’s more specific allegations include pressuring Grant to engage in sexual relations with those in the company and others, along with inappropriately interacting with Grant herself in the workplace. McMahon even offered employment opportunities and promotions in exchange for sexual relations, according to CNN. Following an investigation and a grand jury subpoena, McMahon was reported to have given millions of dollars to various victims of his sexual assault allegations and funded approximately $17.4 million for an investigation of those payments.

The filing states, “Despite Ms. Grant’s expressions of unhappiness and attempts to end the sexual relationship–and while she came to understand that McMahon expected the physical relationship to continue as part of her employment–she had no idea how sordid it would become, nor how the psychological torture and physical violence would leave her feeling helpless, isolated and trapped.”
