The Latest Soulsborne Story Continues

What Do We Learn From The Trailer?

After two years, From Software has released a trailer for a DLC for their hit title, Elden Ring. The DLC will be titled Shadow of the Erdtree and build upon the story of the original game. One of the most striking features was a new map featuring a dark, twisted version of the Erdtree towering over the land.

There is no shortage of new foes in the depths of its shadow. Standouts include a hulking furnace automaton, a leonine beast with thunder powers, and a hippo covered in golden spikes. The most prominent foe is a figure wearing draconic armor and a bloodied cloak, heavily suggested to be the main antagonist. To combat them, players are also given a wide array of new moves and spells at their disposal.

What is the Story of ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’?

Given how far away the DLC is and the mysterious nature of Elden Ring, few solid details have been given. However, a basic plot summary will be found on Bandai Namco’s site. They released a cryptic poem detailing how Miquella, a prominent figure from the lore, departed for the Lands of Shadow seeking a figure by the name of Messmer, the draconic warrior from the trailer. Miquella’s involvement seems inevitable, as he was one of the few survivors of the original game left unseen. Because many of the concepts in this DLC are entirely new, fans can only speculate how they will change the lore.

What To Expect From This DLC?

While there are many predictions to be made about this upcoming DLC, the most certain is that it will amp up the difficulty. In previous Fromsoft DLC, they never failed to take their difficult games to the next level. Examples include Artorias The Abyss Walker in Dark Souls, The Ringed City in Dark Souls III, and The Old Hunters in Bloodborne, each of these provided the toughest of bosses for their respective games. On a positive note, these DLC have always managed to take their respective games a step up in not just difficulty, but storytelling, presentation, and players’ experience. As Elden Ring was From Software at its finest, players probably won’t be disappointed.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree releases on June 21, 2024.
