From One Tim Burton Project to the Next

It has only been around three months since Beetlejuice 2 wrapped up filming back in November of 2023, and there still isn’t much information about what it will be about. And while it isn’t exactly a secret that Jenna Ortega will take on the role of Lydia’s daughter (Winona Ryder), she has finally spoken out about it.

Ortega’s Return to Acting

In a recent interview, Jenna Ortega confirmed her role in the upcoming Tim Burton sequel. “I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say, but I am Lydia Deetz’s daughter, so I’ll give that away. She’s weird, but in a different way and not in the way you’d assume, I would say,” Ortega said. “The relationship between Lydia and Astrid, my character, is very important. And it’s also really strange because it’s a lot of catching up and putting the pieces together of what’s gone on in Lydia’s life since, which is nice, I think, for anybody who loves the character and is excited to see her again.”

Since her role in Netflix’s hit series Wednesday, which led her to superstardom, Jenna Ortega has openly admitted her passion for acting has somewhat dwindled. “I just became very confused emotionally,” Ortega said. “I didn’t know what to say or do.”

But due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which occurred during the shooting of Beetlejuice 2, the actress was able to take a breather and refocus her thoughts. “To still enjoy the job just as much 12 years later—having seen all of the ugly and wonderful and extreme—is pretty cool,” Ortega said.

Cast and Release Date

Beetlejuice 2 is directed by Tim Burton and written by Alfred Gough, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Michael McDowell. Jenna will join returning stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. Also listed in the cast are Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe. Fans can expect to see it in theaters on September 6, 2024.
