Jason Momoa Continues to Set Records For Warner Bros.

Though the DCEU, DC Extended Universe, is officially done, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom let it go out with some flare. Aquaman had made DCEU the most money in the box office. The sequel has not beat out its predecessor, but is still moving its way up in the box office.

Aquaman Carried The DCEU

DCEU is now done, but Aquman and the Lost Kingdom gave it one last big film. According to other sources, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has now made $434 million at the global box office. This achievement marks the film as the first DCEU movie since the original Aquaman to make over $400 million. The film’s milestone was a nice endnote for the DCEU and the Aquaman films. No doubt the success of the first Aquaman film (with over $1 billion at the global box office) contributed to the success of the second. However, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the highest-grossing film in the DCEU since 2018. Despite the outcry from fans over the Amber Heard drama, the second Aquaman film still delivers impressive numbers. Hopefully, this momentum can continue with future films surrounding the DC franchise as the new DCU begins its own journey. Another film announced for the new lineup of DCU films is Superman: Legacy, which will star Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

Breaking the Curse, Except the Big One

One of the biggest achievements that Aquaman gave the DCEU was its ability to break the long-standing downward trend of films released. However, one thing it couldn’t do was break the bad luck the DCEU seemed to be having with sequel films. The sequel films in the DCEU always seemed to do worse than the first. Besides Aquaman, the DCEU’s box office records have been on a steady decline since the release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. Then, there was the whole debacle that was the Justice League film. The fact that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was able to bounce back up to the list is truly impressive, especially considering the other films that were released the same year but were poorly received. For example, Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Fans of Jason Momoa, Aquaman, or the DC universe overall can go watch Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on MAX.
