‘Bad Boys 4’ Release Date Moves Up

Will This be the Last for the Franchise?

The as-ofyet untitled Bad Boys 4 is now releasing in theaters sooner than expected.

Originally set to premier on June 14, 2024, the film is now scheduled to debut in theaters on June 7. Previously, this date was held by the John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, however, the Ana de Armas-led action film was bumped into 2025 due to extensive reshoots. Despite Bad Boys 4 taking over the weekend from Ballerina, it comes as an interesting decision by the studio as it currently leaves their tent-pole blockbuster going toe-to-toe against the Bill Skarsgård remake of The Crow.

The Returning Cast

Returning to the directors chair is the duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. While Bad Boys for Life originally had three credited screenwriters, Peter Craig, Chris Bremner, and Joe Carnahan, only Bremner is returning to pen the fourth film. Will Smith and Martin Lawerence are set to reprise their characters of Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, with no word on whether or not this will be their final film. Other familiar faces are also set to return including Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núñez, and Tasha Smith. Some of the new faces include Ioan Gruffudd, Rhea Seehorn, Joyner Lucas, and Melanie Liburd.

Bad Boys for Life?

When the third Bad Boys film was titled Bad Boys for Life, it was assumed to be the closing chapter in the saga. Nevertheless, money talks in Hollywood and the long overdue film went on to gross over $426 million at the box office, even managing to become the highest grossing film of 2020. It’s safe to assume if Bad Boys 4 is able to achieve the same amount of box office success, audiences will see Smith and Lawerence pair up together again.

With audiences seemingly hungry for more Bad Boys, it seems obviously that audiences would embrace a fourth film. However, a major roadblock Bad Boys 4 faces is being one of the first films released since the controversal 2022 Oscars ceremony, where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage. Whether or not this will impact the box office for any of Smith’s films is yet to be seen, with Bad Boys 4 serving as a tester of how audiences feel about the movie star.

Bad Boys 4 is scheduled to be released on June 7, 2024.
