First-Look At Samara Weaving In Upcoming 90’s Thriller ‘Borderline’

A Film Made for the Die-Hards

The stunningly talented actress of the 2019 Ready or Not film, Samara Weaving, and the comedically gifted writer of 2023’s Cocaine Bear, Jimmy Warden, have finished production on a new horror film set to release later this year. Images have recently emerged of Weaving in her new witty thriller role in Borderline (2024).

Fan Culture

Parasocial relationships with celebrities are not a new concept, but they are a trending topic in modern media. In his directorial debut, Warden is working with LuckyChap Entertainment to release his new film about a ‘90s celebrity being stalked. Weaving plays the celebrity, Sofia, who is accompanied by her bodyguard and her “athlete boyfriend” (reported by Bloody Disgusting). The official synopsis entails: “A star-obsessed sociopath, and his fellow inmates, escape from a mental institution and invade the home of his ‘90s pop superstar. He just wants to be loved; she just wants to survive”.

A terrifying concept to most, the film has been quoted as being both a horror and a comedy. If Warden’s recent work as a writer for Cocaine Bear has shown anything it’s that he can easily work with both genres. Though not much is known, curious horror fans seem to be in good hands.

What to Expect

Unfortunately, there is not much information available about this film yet. Alongside Weaving, the cast includes: Ray Nicholson (The Outsider), Eric Dane (Euphoria and Charmed), Alba Baptista (Warrior Nun), and Jimmie Fails (The Last Black Man in San Francisco). Producers involved with the project include Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, Hadeel Reda, and Brian Duffield.

The released images for the upcoming film feature Weaving in comfy house clothes wandering around a home with a candle to light her way. The other photo features Weaving again with a man grabbing her in what looks to be the world’s most uncomfortable hug from behind. With no trailer released, the images alone paint a more scary and unsettling picture than anything comedic.

Until more news comes out about Borderline, Samara Weaving’s previous success as Grace in Ready or Not is available for streaming on FuboTV and Hulu. Though audiences have not yet witnessed Warden’s directorial work before, his writing can be experienced in Cocaine Bear available on Amazon Prime Video. There is no release date set for the new film.
