Lydia’s Daughter Gets Sucked Into The Afterlife In The Trailer For ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’

Fans have been waiting almost 40 years for the Beetlejuice sequel, and now a new trailer for the anticipated follow-up has been released online. With Tim Burton stepping back into the director role, there’s hope it will be just as good as the original.

The Original Beetlejuice

The 1988 Beetlejuice is a timeless favorite courtesy of Warner Bros. Entertainment. The film follows young Lydia (Winona Ryder), who accidentally releases a malicious ghost, Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton).

With the help of ghosts Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam (Alec Baldwin), the three attempt to do whatever it takes to get Lydia and her family out of their home. Beetlejuice reached such high popularity that it even made a home on Broadway for almost four years, from April 2019 to January 2023. The legendary Tim Burton was the director of the original film and is back for the sequel.

Bringing in someone Burton has worked with before on Wednesday, Jenna Ortega will have a lead role as Astrid in the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice film. Also returning for the creation team is Danny Elfman, who will be making the unbelievable score yet again.

The sequel will follow all three generations of the Deetz family, who find themselves back in Winter River after a family death. With the house still being haunted by the infamous Beetlejuice, only trouble can be underway.

Astrid, following in her rebellious mother’s footsteps, finds a model of the town in the attic and unintentionally opens the portal to the afterlife. Chaos in both the real world and afterlife beacons for Beetlejuice’s name to be said three times and possibly allow him to set havoc loose in Winter River again.

Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia, Lydia’s mother, will reprise their roles from the original film. Justin Theroux will also join the Deetz family as Rory.

The new trailer gives viewers the first glimpses of new characters played by Willem Dafoe and Monica Belluci. Moreover, fans get to see more of Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and rising star Jenna Ortega.

Burton’s Effects Are Coming Back!

Fans were told that the upcoming movie would use as many old-school practical effects as possible. The trailer shows just how comfortable Tim Burton is in this genre as he gets back into his Beetlejuice style. In the trailer, fans can already see Burton using practical effects and stop-motion techniques to make the sequel feel as close to the original as possible.

Stay tuned for more information as it is released and until then, fans can watch Beetlejuice for a purchase price on Amazon Prime or on Philo and Sling TV now.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will spook its way into theaters on September 6, 2024.
