Warner Bros. TV Developing A ‘300’ Series With Zack Snyder On Board

Warner Bros.

This is Sparta!

Get ready to return to Sparta.

Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. are reportedly reuniting together on a new 300 project. Released in 2007, 300 was directed by Zack Snyder, with a script written by Snyder, Kurt Johnstad, and Michael B. Gordon.  The film was based on the 1998 graphic novel of the same name, written and illustrated by Frank Miller.

“Persians, Come and Get Them.”

300 takes place in the year 480 B.C. during a war between Persia and Greece. King of the city-state Sparta, Leonidas (Gerard Butler), leads his outnumbered army against the massive Persian army led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). Although the Spartans are guaranteed certain death, they withstand the forces of multiple adversaries and serve as an inspiration for the rest of Greece. Staring alongside Butler and Santoro are David Wenham, Lena Headey, Dominic West, Vincent Regan, Michael Fassbender, and Andrew Pleavin.

Having a budget of $60 million, 300 became a smash hit grossing $456 million. A sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire, was released in 2014, based on the graphic novel Xerxes by Frank Miller. The plot of the film occurs before, during, and after the events of 300, following Greek general Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton), who sees the threat that King Xerxes and his army are to Greece. He attempts to unite all of Greece to fend off the Persians while facing off Artemisia (Eva Green), the leader of the Persian armada. Both Headey and Santoro reprise their roles from the first movie. Snyder and Johnstad returned as directors, with Noam Murro stepping into the director’s chair.

“I Brought More Soldiers Than You Did!”

The new project is currently in the early stages with no deals set in place. However, Warner Bros. reportedly wants to reunite Zack and Deborah Snyder with the rest of the production team who worked on the original 300 film. From the film’s production team, Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, and Bernie Goldmann are in talks to return.

Currently, a writer isn’t attached nor has a platform for the series to debut on been revealed. Story details are unknown, but, it’s reportedly going to be a prequel to the original movie.

300 is available to stream on Hulu.
