All Good Things Must Come To An End

With The Boys season four premiere just around the corner, fans of the hit Amazon Prime series have been blindsided with devastating news. Season 5 will close the chapter on the TV show.

The Season Four Kickoff

The Boys is based on the comic book series of the same name by Eric Kripke and Darick Robertson. The series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McEligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chase Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Karen Fukuhara, and Laz Alonso. The series is set in a universe of super-powered individuals where a group known as The Seven, is owned by the powerful corporation, Vought International. Unlike the Marvel or DC comic heroes, most heroes in The Boys are corrupt and self-serving. This leads to the formation of a vigilante group called the Boys, who set out to expose the corruption and bring the system of superheroes down.

Showrunner Eric Kripke went on to X (formally Twitter) to remind viewers of the premiere of the upcoming fourth season, as well as one other major announcement.

The Boys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!” Kripke wrote in his post. “Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, ’cause the end has begun!”

The Future For The Boys

The first season of The Boys premiered in 2019 and quickly became one of Amazon Prime’s top shows. The series stood out for being a satire of the superhero genre, as well as its extreme gory violence and dark, twisted sense of humor. The success of the series led to two spin-offs, the first being the animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical. The series is an anthology, telling various stories set in the world of The Boys, using different styles of animation for each episode. The second spin-off, Gen V, follows a group of college students at the superhero university, Godolkin University School of Crime Fighting, trying to earn a chance at joining The Seven. Suddenly, the university’s dark secrets are uncovered by some of the students, putting their lives at risk.

Season 5 was already greenlit a month ago, ahead of the new season’s premiere. This announcement of the main show’s conclusion comes at an interesting time, as the spin-off series, Gen V, also had its season 2 greenlit a few months back. Whether or not the spin-off series is also concluding is yet to be seen, however, Gen V tied directly into the events of The Boys. It’s hard to see Gen V carrying on without the main show being there to help guide it.

Season 4 is set to premiere on June 13, with the first three episodes available at once, before switching to a weekly model. Similar to the previous three seasons, the fourth will consist of eight episodes.

The Boys is available on Amazon Prime.
