Warner Bros. Releases Trailer for New Animated ‘Watchmen’ Movie

The ‘Watchmen’ Return

It’s been nearly 4 decades since the Watchmen limited series comic book was released. With the release of a new teaser trailer, Warner Bros. confirms that the latest adaptation is set to be released later this year.

At this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival this past week, Warner Bros. announced its plans for the upcoming two-part film, Watchmen. Very little is known thus far but it’s been indicated that both parts of the film will be released separately. Part I will be released later this year and part II is set to premiere sometime in 2025. The trailer already has over 1 million views on X, as fans admire the animation style and speculate the movie’s direction. It appears that the adaptation will stick to the graphic novel’s original storyline. At this time there is no official IMDb page for the project.

‘Watchmen’ Success

The Watchmen comic book has sold over a million copies and enjoyed immediate critical acclaim, including praise from Time Magazine. The effort also earned a Hugo Award in 1988 in the Other Forms category. Since then, there have been a handful of adaptations and continuations of the story, across various mediums. After almost 20 years of trying, Warner Bros. was finally able to put together a live-action film that was released in 2009, sharing a title with the graphic novel. The Watchmen film was received with mixed reviews with many fans believing it was ahead of its time. The movie grossed over $185 million worldwide. Warner Bros. has also released the intellectual property as a motion comic and partnered with HBO for a 9-episode miniseries that took place 34 years after the events in the original story. The series starred Regina King and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

The teaser trailer is also available to stream on Warner Bros. Entertainment’s YouTube channel.
