Maika Monroe Says ‘It Follows’ Sequel Will Be “Bigger and Darker”

Maika Monroe Says 'It Follows' Sequel Will Be "Bigger and Darker"

Following For Film Updates

The 2014 horror film It Follows, starring Maika Monroe in her breakout role Jamie “Jay” Height, was confirmed to be returning in the upcoming 2024 sequel They Follow. With David Robert Mitchell, the writer and director of It Follows, confirmed to return for the sequel as well, Maika Monroe says that They Follow will be “bigger” and “darker” than its predecessor, words that will hopefully excite fans for a scary spectacle soon to hit theaters.

Following The Original Film

The original It Follows focuses on Jamie “Jay” Height trying to escape from a supernatural entity that seeks and kills those who have had a sexual encounter with their previous target at walking speed and her journey not to be killed by the shapeshifting monster invisible all but the targeted victim. Based on the title of the sequel alone, it is likely that fans of the film will be seeing Maika Monroe’s Jamie “Jay” Height return to the big screen to deal with multiple versions of the same shapeshifter.

Stalking The Coming Sequel

When explaining They Follow and her reprise role to Collider, Maika Monroe sheds a bit of light on the sequel’s plot direction. “I think where you’ll meet Jay at this point is maybe not what’s expected, but it’s so cool,” she says. “It’s just, of course, as everyone says for sequels, literally, though, is just bigger and darker and more f***ed up.” Her words become a clear message for those looking forward to the new film, as they should expect They Follow to be potentially more disturbing or distressing than It Follows.
