Agatha And Her Coven Go Down Witches’ Road In The Trailer For ‘Agatha All Along’

The comical villain of Marvel’s “WandaVision” is making a comeback this Halloween season. What do we know so far?

Marvel’s Very Own Season of the Witch

Originally introduced in WandaVision in 2021, the antagonist witch, Agatha Harkness (portrayed by Kathryn Hahn) had lost her powers and was trapped inside her own spell. This Fall, the comical character will return for a spinoff series and Marvel has finally started to show off the fan-favorite villain in a brand new trailer.

Production As We Know It

Though not as infamous as other villains in the Marvel comics, Agatha Harkness is a formidable character that has been tucked away in many plots since her debut in the 94th issue of Fantastic Four in 1969. In the fall of 2021, after her live-action debut earlier that year, Variety was given exclusive news of the eccentric witchy villain obtaining her own spin-off show. With Jac Schaeffer’s (writer of WandaVision) help as the executive producer and lead writer, audiences who fell in love with the witch will be in good hands. Before the title for the new series became Agatha All Along, after her iconic character theme, the title of the show had switched between Coven of Chaos, Darkhold Diaries, The Lying Witch With Great Wardrobe, and Agatha: House of Harkness. Though somewhat confusing, the bit is entirely in character and could perhaps lead to foreshadowing within the season.

As told by the official Walt Disney Company website, the series will follow Agatha as she’s woken from her spell by a goth teen who joins her in her quest to find her powers again at the end of the legendary Witches’ Road. The cast of witches, cops, and delinquents include Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Debra Jo Rupp, and Ali Ahn.

What To Expect

Released on July 8th, 2024, the first trailer for Agatha All Along seems to be following the same dark comedy choices of WandaVision. The trailer begins morbidly with Agatha portraying herself as a detective in order to investigate Wanda’s dead body (which one can only assume is linked to her death in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness). The old detective-style story then evolves into some colorful hijinks as Agatha attempts to gather other witches to help her get her powers back. The wardrobe, set pieces, and even the color & texture of the film seem to change as it did in WandaVision, though it is unclear if it is Agatha’s doing or that of someone else.

Marvel has spent the past few years really digging deep into the multiverse plotline and fans are left to wonder if the Time Variance Authority (TVA) will come to play. So far it seems that audiences will have to watch WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in order to be filled in on the plot, however, it is unknown if the new Deadpool and Wolverine films will have any effect on the new series. Agatha All Along will be debuting with its first two episodes of Disney Plus on September 18, 2024.
