Quaid Recollects Putting Himself On Tape And "It Going Nowhere."
The world of DC Comics has been abuzz with excitement as the DC Extended Universe is set to kick off its new era with the release of James Gunn’s Superman in 2025. The highly anticipated film will introduce a new take on the iconic superhero, played by David Corenswet.
But what could have happened if Jack Quaid, known for his role as Hughie Campbell in Amazon’s The Boys, had landed the role instead? In a recent interview, Quaid revealed that he had auditioned for Superman but ultimately didn’t get the part.
The Other Man of Steel
As a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Quaid, who had previously lent his voice to Clark Kent in the animated series My Adventures with Superman, shared that he didn’t get very far in the audition process.
“I put myself on tape, and it went nowhere,” Quaid admitted humbly. “And that’s fine. Like, that’s totally cool.”
What made it even more interesting was Quaid’s candid admission that he knew David Corenswet, the eventual cast member who will play Superman, from a pilot years ago that never took off.
“We did a pilot years ago that never went anywhere,” Quaid recalled. “But he’s one of those people you meet, and you go, ‘Oh, yeah! Whenever they need another one, it’s probably gonna be you.’ That guy is Superman.”
Quaid’s honesty about his own limitations was refreshing, as he acknowledged that he didn’t think he fit the role.
“I’m the voice of Superman in a cartoon, but I don’t really think I fit the bill physically at all,” he said with a laugh. “And that’s fine, that’s totally cool.”
Despite not landing the role, Quaid seemed genuinely pleased to have had the opportunity to audition and even expressed admiration for Corenswet.
And it’s easy to see why – Corenswet has already won over many fans online with his impressive teaser look of Superman and his titular costume. The actor will be joining Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman, and many critics and fans are excited about the upcoming film.

Up, Up, and Away!
In the end, it seems that the Man of Steel has found his perfect match in David Corenswet. While Quaid may not be donning the iconic red and blue suit, his genuine admiration for Corenswet and the Superman franchise is a testament to the power of community and shared passion.
As fans eagerly await the release of James Gunn’s Superman in 2025, it’s heartening to know that there are actors like Quaid who are willing to acknowledge their limitations and support their fellow artists.
With Quaid’s My Adventures with Superman and The Boys already under his belt, who knows what other exciting projects are on the horizon for this talented actor?
All current seasons of The Boys and My Adventures with Superman are available to stream on Prime Video and Max.
