Trailer For Family-Horror Film ‘Monster Summer’ Drops

Summer With the Stars

Family-friendly horror films are rare, but luckily David Henrie (Wizards of Waverly Place and How I Met Your Mother) has it covered. Henrie will be in charge of directing Monster Summer with horror gem Mason Thomas (The Black Phone) starring.

Mel Gibson Is My Neighbor

The literal first thing viewers will be greeted by when watching the trailer for Monster Summer is none other than Hollywood’s black sheep, Mel Gibson (Passion of the Christ). Mason Thames is on vacation with his family in Martha’s Vineyard and reconnecting with old friends. Things start innocently enough with the typical summer hijinks. Things quickly take a turn when a group member stops acting like himself after a mysterious accident. As more and more kids start to have the same experience, Thomas and his friends set out under Gibson’s guidance, to make things right. No matter what happens, one thing’s for sure. This will be a “Monster Summer” (*wink*).

Family Friendly

The idea of family-friendly horror films has always been a hard sell considering their contradictory nature. Asking a film to be scary and appropriate for the entire family is a tall order. The trailer almost makes the film out to be one of those straight-to-video Disney movies like Under Wraps or Halloweentown which is great since those are the best examples of family-friendly horror films out there. The film is also shockingly filled to the brim with familiar faces outside of Mason Thames and Mel Gibson. Stars from other children’s classics such as Kevin James (Grown Ups), Patrick Renna (The Sandlot), and Julian Lerner (The Wonder Years).

Monster Summer is coming to theaters on October 4, 2024.

A lover of gore and over the top violence, no movie can make my stomach squirm. The only thing better than a bloody death scene is a well choreographed stunt. Whether it be action or horror, if it has blood in it, then I've likely already seen it.
