‘Twisters’ Debuted and Raked in Millions
With the support of previews from Amblin, Universal, and Warner Bros, Twisters made $72M on its first day—nearly 76% more than the 1996 original, which made $41M when adjusted for inflation. Although Twisters didn’t surpass the first day/previews for Dune: Part Two, it stands alongside Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Forecast: A Torrential Downpour of Blockbusters and Cash
Universal isn’t the only studio making waves. Recently, Universal/Illumination released Despicable Me 4, which earned $5M on Thursday, July 4, $69.1M in its first week, and then soared to $235.6M in its second week. However, Universal’s successes face stiff competition, as various studios have chosen to release blockbuster hits this summer. Neon’s film Longlegs earned $2.2M on July 11, totaling $32.9M in its first week. Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 brought in $2.4M on its first day, $31.7M in its first week, and an impressive $583.5M by the fifth week. Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One made $1.1M on opening day, $17M in the first week, and reached $121.5M by week five. Then, there was Fly Me to the Moon by Apple/Sony, which made $595K on its opening day and $13M in its first week.

Viewership Soars for ‘Twisters’
Twisters has made substantial earnings and continues to dominate the box office after three days, with its revenue nearing the $80 million mark. Despite its strong performance, a few factors are hindering it from reaching that milestone. The movie has garnered significant support and admiration from audiences, especially those from the country’s central regions. It has also received praise from critics, including CinemaScore and PostTrak, further boosting its reputation.
One of the main elements driving Twisters sustained attention is its strong appeal to the 18-34 age demographic. This age group is crucial, as many of its members were not around when the original movie was released, making Twisters a fresh and exciting experience for them. With continuous support from critics and fans and the potential to draw in more viewers from diverse age groups, Twisters is poised to keep its momentum and possibly surpass the $80 million milestone soon.
