‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Reboot Rounds Out It’s Cast

The Film Will Be Produced By Neil Moritz, Who Worked On The 1997 Original

The infamous hook-wielding killer of the late ’90s is returning to haunt another generation. Jim Gillespie’s film, I Know What You Did Last Summer, based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel of the same name, is returning as a reboot after almost thirty years.

Announced to release in the summer of 2025, the cult classic’s fans have been notified who will be playing the unfortunate friends of Southport, North Carolina.

Rebooting A Horror Classic

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Camila Mendes (Riverdale), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Sarah Pidgeon (Tiny Beautiful Things), and Jonah Haur-King (The Little Mermaid, 2023) have joined the project.

The story of four friends, an accidental murder, and a stalking serial killer has officially started to make its comeback. After recent successes of other ’90s horror reboots such as Paramount’s Scream and Universal Pictures’ Candyman, it is only fitting that Sony Pictures Entertainment would bring back its own horror icon.

Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (known for her work in Someone Great and Thor: Love and Thunder) and co-written alongside Sam Lansky and Leah McKendric, the new film will be produced by Neil Moritz, who worked on the original 1997 film.

Though their status is unknown, original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. have also been rumored to return for the reboot. Despite the common worries from cult fans that a reboot of their beloved film will not do as well as they desire, the recent announcement of the new main cast seems hopeful.

How To Hook An Audience

Reboots and sequels of cult classics are never easy. Often, fans will be left disliking a project solely because it does not match their expectations of the original.

Though these concerns are valid, the members of this film who have been announced so far have already given this film a sturdy platform to stand on. It’s not always that original producers and actors can return, and it’s doubtful that they would let their beloved film get dirty.

Sony Pictures Entertainment will release I Know What You Did Last Summer on July 18, 2025. Less than a year away, the wait is still agonizing. Until then, the original film (as well as the sequels and the 2021 TV series) can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
