Trailer for Home-Invasion Thriller ‘Last Straw’

Shout! Studios Puts An Interesting Spin On The Home Invasion Genre With Their Latest Film

Home invasion horror, as the genre suggests, is a type of film where someone’s home is broken into by the antagonists. Alan Scott Neal and Shout! Studio’s upcoming film ‘Last Straw’ turns this on its head – by having the movie take place in a diner.

A Long Night Shift

‘Last Straw’ follows a small-town waitress named Nancy Obsorn, portrayed by Jessica Belkin, managing an average non-descript diner. In the trailer, she is assigned to work a late shift and Nancy is all too thrilled to have the place to herself – until she is made aware that she is not alone for the night. Nancy calls the police, stating there are kids harassing her outside. When an officer arrives and promptly vanishes, it is heavily implied that the mask-wearing antagonists outside the diner hold the ability to mimic voices, which lays the foundation for a constant state of doubt and fear. These masked fiends taunt Nancy with her own voice and the voice of the officer. Will Nancy be able to defend herself and survive her night shift?

Cast and Crew

‘Last Straw’ is Alan Scott Neal’s directing debut. Thus far he has worked in casting departments, working for high-bar titles such as ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Uncut Gems.’ He is accompanied by writer Taylor Sardoni, who has worked on films such as ‘The Atomic Dream’ and ‘Storm.’ The film is being distributed by Shout! Studios, known mainly for hit animated series ‘Arcane’ and ‘The Boy and the Heron.’

Despite being on the smaller end, the cast of ‘Last Straw’ is not to be underestimated. As mentioned before, ‘American Horror Story’s Jessica Belkin plays the protagonist Nancy Osborn. Joining her is Jeremy Sisto playing Edward Osborn, well-known for his ongoing role in the TV series ‘FBI.’ Alongside them are Taylor Kowalski (Jake Collins), Tara Raani (Tabitha), and Joj Otani-Hansen (Bobby). Kowalski is known for his work in TV shows such as “Homelander’ and ‘Snowfall,’ while Raani has been applauded for her work in the series ‘Grown-ish.’ Otani-Hansen is both an actor and director, but has most recently taken a stab at voice acting in ‘Rise of the Ronin.’ Such a talented cast and crew is sure not to disappoint.

‘Last Straw’ will be available in certain theaters and across digital platforms on September 20, 2024.
