‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Reveals First Look At Comic-Con

The Iconic Quartet Finally Makes Their Debut In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

As San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) wraps up, fans of various franchises are parsing through lots of new information. Marvel’s announcements brought together comic and movie fans alike with the reveal of one of their next projects, The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Beginning Phase Six

Marvel’s Phase Five is on its way out, with only a few movies left in its roster. This includes Deadpool and Wolverine, currently in theaters as of July 2024, Captain America: Brave New World (releasing February 14, 2025), and Thunderbolts* (releasing May 5, 2025). The Fantastic Four: First Steps was announced, and a brief panel followed Marvel’s previous upcoming films.

The panel revealed that the film itself was on its way, with production continuing filming on July 29. A small teaser reel of the film was shown to audiences in Hall H, revealing glimpses of the retro 1960s futuristic alternate universe where our heroes reside. The reel also depicts a documentary-style behind-the-scenes look at Marvel’s first family preparing for a mission in outer space.

The trailer shows snippets of Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards teaching a group of young students about the possibilities of the multiverse and the group’s status as celebrities. It also shows shots of them suiting up in their astronaut gear as they prepare to launch into outer space for a mission. The teaser concludes with our very first look at the film’s main villain, Galactus, as the gigantic celestial hovers over a building and peers into a window.

The Fantastic Four will also appear in two other Marvel movies in Phase Six. After this teaser, fans at SDCC were pleasantly surprised with the actors of the first family joining the panel in person for a brief interview.

Cast and Crew

The small amount of cast that was revealed for The Fantastic Four: First Steps is already studded with famous stars. Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, who is well known for his roles in shows The Mandalorian and The Last of Us.

Accompanying him is Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, who starred in the Netflix series The Crown. Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach star as Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing, respectively. Ralph Ineson plays the mighty villain Galactus, and Julia Garner appears as a new version of Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer.

WandaVision’s Matt Shakman directs the film. Composer Michael Giacchino, well-renowned for his work in Star Trek and the Planet of the Apes series, will write the film’s score. Scriptwriters include Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Ian Springer, and Jeff Kaplan. WandaVision and Moon Knight’s Peter Cameron wrote the screenplay.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released on July 25, 2025. Watch Marvel’s current newest release, Deadpool and Wolverine, in theaters worldwide.
