First Look At Paul Rudd And Tim Robinson In ‘Friendship’

The Upcoming Buddy Comedy Is One Of The Titles Among This Year's TIFF Midnight Madness Lineup

From “I Think You Should Leave” to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson have been busy for the past few years. The trailer for their upcoming film ‘Friendship’ promises to take the comedians in a direction they have never gone before.

Comedy Kingpins

Paul Rudd has been a prominent player in Hollywood comedy for the better part of thirty years. From roles in films like Anchorman to his leading role as Marvel’s Antman, he has seen no shortage of prominent roles in his decade-spanning career. After a run of critically disappointing MCU endeavors, Rudd has begun to expand his horizon to projects seemingly outside of his wheelhouse. Apple TV’s The Shrink Next Door introduced audiences to this newfound, more serious Rudd, who is ready to tackle ambitious projects once again.

Robinson, who catapulted into stardom by starring in shows like Saturday Night Live and Comedy Central’s The Detroiters, has made a name for himself specializing in a unique brand of ironic and irreverent humor. His new show, I Think You Should Leave, has also found a large audience and has quickly become one of the most streamed comedy series on Netflix.

A Fractured Friendship

Friendship by director Andrew Deyoung follows the bizarre relationship between two neighbors portrayed by Rudd and Robinson. After forming a titular friendship, Robinson quickly becomes obsessed with his neighbor. The trailer promises to toe the line between hilarious and uncomfortable, bringing the style of Awkward humor Robinson is famous for; Young will make his feature film directorial debut with two highly recognizable stars.

Despite his inexperienced directing films, he has an extensive history in comedy television, directing several episodes of the acclaimed Our Flag Means Death. In addition to its leading men, Friendship also stars Kate Mara, Meredith Garretson, Jon Glaser, and Josh Segarra.

Friendship Premiers at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5.
