Rudolph May Have A Long Contract Ahead Of Her
To many fans’ joy, Maya Rudolph will return As Kamala ‘Mamala’ Harris in this season of Saturday Night Live. First becoming ‘meme’ worthy after her debut portraying the politician, Deadline has recently announced that her run isn’t over yet despite already working on another comedy show.
Mamala
First appearing on Saturday Night Live in 1999, Rudolph has returned numerous times over the years for the occasional episode. After originating the role as Harris in a cold open on December 21, 2019, in an Eddie Murphy-hosted episode, her caricature of the politician became an immediate hit. The sketch revolved around the political debate that would eventually lead to Harris’s nomination as Vice President of the United States. It was meant to be a simple bit, pointing fun at the 2020 election, but fans loved how real her comedic portrayal was. Harris herself went to Twitter to publicly announce her admiration shortly after the episode aired.
Now that Harris has become the top nominee for the Democratic party for the 2024 election, Rudolph will be reprising her Emmy-winning role. Audiences have pleaded for the comedian to return, however, her return does not come without fault. Season 3 of Rudolph’s Apple TV+ comedy series Loot which was meant to begin filming August 31 has now been postponed to January 2024.

‘SNL’ in 2024
Beginning October 11, 1975, the late-night sketch show has been on an almost constant run every Saturday night, earning dozens of awards including 84 primetime Emmys. Rudolph expressed her thoughts on Saturday Night Live after winning her first Emmy in 2020, ‘When I’m there I genuinely feel like I’m at home.’
The comedy show has passed through multiple generations of Americans and seems to have no end. The fiftieth season will be airing on September 28, 2024. Of course, no one can know for sure if Harris will stay in the public eye and if Rudolph will then continue playing the character if she does, but it will be presumed that the comedian will at least stay in NYC for the duration of the 2024 election.
Saturday Night Live can be streamed on Peacock and watched live on NBC each Saturday at 11:30 EST.
