A Live-Action 'Minions' is Nowhere Near as High as Expected
Chris Renaud, director of Despicable Me 2 and Despicable Me 4, discusses the chances of a live-action Minions adaptation. The handful of people out there hoping for this will be disappointed as even Renaud is skeptical.
Lord Have Mercy
In an interview by Film Hounds, when asked about the possibility of seeing those iconic yellow creatures in the flesh, Chris Renaud reacted negatively to the idea. His specific words were, “God, I hope not…”. While it may initially seem like Renaud has as much disdain for the yellow creatures as others, his reasoning is fair. The films work as animations because certain things are done in cartoons versus live action. He even brings up Bugs Bunny cartoons which are known for the crazy and often violent hijinks that ensue. How would such violent scenes translate to a live-action adaptation without being rated R?

Not out of the Woods Yet
To be fair, this isn’t definitive proof that a live-action adaptation Minions can’t or won’t ever happen. Renaud clarifies that he hasn’t been a part of any talks one way or another so the possibility is still there. It’s, however, important to note that Illumination’s parent company Universal has plans for a live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon. Regardless of what the current attitude might be surrounding live-action adaptations, the potential success of that film as an adaptation would likely change the studio’s direction. Just look at Disney, for example, which has found undeniable success with their live-action adaptations (at least in terms of their box office sales).

A lover of gore and over the top violence, no movie can make my stomach squirm. The only thing better than a bloody death scene is a well choreographed stunt. Whether it be action or horror, if it has blood in it, then I've likely already seen it. |
