Scream Official Miramax Trailer
Spooky and Sweet
A new horror-themed baking competition is coming this Halloween season. Actor Matthew Lillard (Scream, Five Nights at Freddy’s), actress Danielle Harris (Halloween 5), and food artist Nikk Alcaraz will serve as judges for the confection competiton meant to honor the genre.
Delicious and Terrifying
On August 19, 2024, Amazon Prime announced a new special titled Killer Cakes along with a few promo photos showing the judges on a dark set. According to the article, “contestants will work with the best horror special effects artists in Hollywood to unleash their twisted imaginations and create cakes so disgusting, so disturbing, and so realistic, it’s the stuff of nightmares”. Producer Ruth Amsel known for Cake Wars and Ridiculous Cakes has been listed as the showrunner and will be working alongside Jason Blum and Gretchen Palek from Blumhouse Television and Scott Feely from High Noon Entertainment.
In addition to the special effects artists (who have yet to be named) will be the bakers: Amanda Yother, Dillon Barlow, Dziedra “Z” Brusberg, Deadra “Dee” Compean, Eszter Summerlin, Jesse Lesser, Mark Lie, and Shanelle Long. Though the special will only consist of two parts, the combination of the studios and the experienced hosts gives this program the hype it deserves.
Release Date and Competition
The “deliciously gory” series will hope to return in the future with more specials as it aims to appease both baking show fanatics as well as horror fans. Exciting as it sounds, this is not the first horror related food program to hit screens everywhere. In 2015, Food Network released Halloween Baking Championship, a halloween themed baking competition series that is still continuing in 2024. Though Food Network has a huge fanbase, the judges and production companies of Killer Cakes will surely bring a big enough audience to rival the network.
The two-part specialwill debut both parts exclusively on Amazon Prime on October 8, 2024. It will be accessible to 240 countries and territories worldwide. Until then, potential fans of the special can see the star judge Matthew Lillard in his most famous horror role as Stu Macher in the 1996 slasher Scream.
