‘The Watchers’ to Debut on Max This Month

The Watchers (2024) Official Warner Bros. Pictures Trailer

Ishana Night Shyamalan Takes to Streaming

Legendary director M. Night Shyamalan has raised three daughters, the second-eldest of which recently had her directorial debut in film. After premiering in theaters this past summer, The Watchers will now move to HBO’s streaming service, Max, starting August 30.

The Watchers

After lending her talents in producing, directing, and writing to the Apple TV+ series Servant, Ishana Shyamalan set her sights on film. The Watchers, written and directed by Shyamalan, is centered around a young artist who finds herself stranded in western Ireland and stalked by mysterious creatures that appear at night. The movie is based on the Irish horror novel that shares a name with the production. Renowned author of the book, A.M. Shine, makes his Hollywood debut, as he’s given credits for the film’s screenplay. Despite the star power of Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds, I Am Sam) and M. Night Shyamalan serving as a producer, the movie didn’t fare well with critics. Although the film lacked critical praise, the gross worldwide box office sales were able to exceed production costs ($30M) by a few million dollars. At this time, Ishana Shyamalan has no further projects on the horizon.

Also on Max

HBO’s original series Industry debuted this month for its third season, while adding Kit Harington to the cast. With the regular NFL season fast approaching, the acclaimed mini docuseries Hard Knocks has been underway, this time focusing on the Chicago Bears and the organization’s offseason training camp. Max has also added some fan-favorite films to its streaming list, featuring titles such as Pretty Woman, Beetlejuice, How to Train Your Dragon, Taken, Rio, and Something’s Gotta Give. Starting August 29, the entire 35th season of Beat Bobby Flay will also be available to stream. Next month, Max will feature Alex Garland’s Civil War starting on September 13. The highly anticipated series The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell as the titular character, will have its series premiere on September 19.

The Watchers is also currently available online for rent or purchase.
