Inside Out 2 Grosses A Billion Internationally
According to Variety, Pixar’s latest film, Inside Out 2, grossed over a billion dollars at the international box office. Specifically, this statistic refers to how much money it made overseas alone, excluding the domestic box office. For reference, only eleven other films have achieved this level of success. Continuing the story of the 2015 film, the sequel follows Riley’s emotions as Anxiety and several others upend their status quo.
The film currently stands as the highest-grossing film of the year, surpassing even the long-awaited Deadpool and Wolverine, with $1.649 billion at the global box office. At the time of writing, Inside Out 2 is on track to becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
Why This Matters
There are many reasons why moviegoers and Pixar fans should be excited about this news. First, it shows that animated films continue to surge in popularity and respect. While audiences have always loved animated cinema, this is the first time a production has reached this scale of success on an international scale.
Furthermore, fans are excited because the film is coming close to surpassing the box office success of the 2019 Lion King remake, a film that was despised for its shallow retelling of the original film. If this film surpasses Lion King, many would see it as a victory for original stories in animation.
