A24 Acquires the Rights to Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Queer’

Call Me by Your Name (2017) Official Sony Pictures Trailer

Luca Guadgnino’s Upcoming Project Has Received Distribution

Ahead of its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, A24 has officially acquired the rights to Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming gay romance drama, Queer. Known for his distinct storytelling and visual style, Guadagnino will continue to explore complex human relationships in this latest project. Based on the novel by William S. Burroughs, the film delves into themes of identity, desire, and self-discovery.

What To Know

Set in 1950s Mexico City, Queer centers on William Lee, an American expatriate in his late 40s, portrayed by Craig, who lives a lonely existence within a tight-knit American community. His monotonous life takes a turn with the arrival of Eugene Allerton, played by Drew Starkey, a young student whose presence awakens William’s desire for a genuine human connection. The film also features a stellar cast, including Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Andra Ursuta, Michael Borremans, and David Lowery, adding depth to this exploration of love, longing, and self-discovery. According to Variety, “‘Queer’ is a labor of love, and we could not be more excited that our film has found a home with a studio as daring, vital, and trail-blazing as A24,” Craig and Guadagnino said in a joint statement. “It is our deep honor to finally bring Burroughs’ legendary novel to life on screen for the first time, and we feel immense gratitude and excitement to be able to present it alongside our treasured collaborators. We could not ask for better partners on this journey.” Queer is set to make its North American debut as a special presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be featured at the Spotlight Gala at the New York Film Festival.
