Series Awaits Greenlight
Deadline has reported that One Tree Hill may finally get its long-awaited and highly rumored sequel series. Netflix is slated to be involved, as original cast members, Sophia Bush (John Tucker Must Die) and Hilarie Burton (The Secret Life of Bees), will be serving as executive producers in addition to reprising their roles for the series.
What’s Known
With detailed information still lacking, preliminary planning has begun, with producers and production companies becoming involved in the early stages of the project. Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles have attached their production company, Chaos Machine Productions, to the revival of One Tree Hill. Jensen, of course, is known for his 15-season (327 episodes) run of the hit show, Supernatural, when he played Dean Winchester. More recently, Jensen was seen in Season 3 of The Boys, portraying the villain Soldier Boy. Danneel joined the original cast of One Tree Hill for 51 episodes, playing the role of Rachel Scott/Gatina. Emily Moss Wilson, known for her work in the writing, directing, and producing of TV movies, has also been named as a producer for the upcoming One Tree Hill sequel. The creator of the original series, Mark Schwahn, isn’t expected to take part in the upcoming project.
One Tree Hill
The original series quickly captivated fans with its compelling drama and relatable characters. A cast featuring Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, Lee Norris, Paul Johansson, and Antwon Tanner helped turn in a historic 9-season series that spanned 187 episodes. The show was able to build and maintain its popularity during this stretch, averaging over 1 million viewers per episode in the final season. The conclusion of the series even saw a highly-rated TV special entitled One Tree Hill: Always and Forever that served as a farewell to fans of the show. The event featured interviews with the cast and crew, behind-the-scenes footage, and discussions about the show’s legacy and impact. Fans have been excited to learn that legacy may be extended more than a decade later.
