Nightbitch (2024) Official Trailer Courtesy of Searchlight Pictures
There Is Great Feral Power In Motherhood
Starring six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams (Enchanted), Nightbitch exemplifies the darkly comedic horrors of motherhood. As Adams says in the movie’s trailer, “I am a woman… I am an animal… I am Nightbitch.”
Feral Motherhood Creates ‘Nightbitch’
It’s not easy being a woman. Going full dog mode is far easier even with the odd looks. Adams doesn’t hold back on going barking mad. Rated “R” for “language and some sexuality,” Nightbitch is a darkly comedic horror film. Furthermore, Vanity Fair described that writer-director Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) settled on calling the film “a comedy for women, and a horror movie for men.” Additionally, it’s evident from the trailer alone that this film will have some crazy lines. Adams’ line delivery as she shoves burgers in her mouth and tells people “I could crush a walnut with my vagina” is worth it alone to watch the trailer.
Scoot McNairy (Blonde) and Mary Holland (Happiest Season) star alongside Adams. Moreover, Adams, Heller, Anne Carey (The Diary of a Teenage Girl), Sue Naegle (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Christina Oh (Minari), and Stacy O’Neil (Dead Ringers) produced the film.

According to the official synopsis, Nightbitch follows the story of “a woman thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, who slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine.”
Another From Page to Screen Adaptation
Nightbitch is based on Rachel Yoder’s debut novel, which is of the same title. Furthermore, Annapurna Pictures gained rights to the film in July 2020 before the novel was published. Searchlight Pictures later purchased the distribution rights in 2022 from Annapurna. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Heller and Adams worked on developing the film during COVID-19 before filming started. Furthermore, the film is slated to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7 where Adams will receive the Performer Award. Nightbitch has already won a ReFrame Stamp as a Feature in ReFrame this year.
Nightbitch will be available to watch in theaters on December 6.
