It’s Showtime For Burton Fans Everywhere
Originally released in 1988, Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice rose to be one of his biggest hits while solidifying itself as a Halloween cult classic. Now, his sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is earning even more diehard fans after premiering on September 6, 2024.
Feeding the Fans Lots of ‘Beetlejuice’
This sequel was certain to be a big moneymaker due to the original film’s cult following. However, with a large fanbase comes large expectations. Luckily for them, a great portion of the original cast and crew returned for the project. Winona Ryder (Lydia Deetz), Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice), and Catherine O’Hara (Delia Deetz) are only a few of the returning cast members.
Marketing and promotions for the film included a ton of new merch, TikToks, promo photos, and more. RelishMix had this to say on the sequel’s marketing plan, “Convo for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice runs positive with viewers highlighting how unique and special this film feels, a rare accomplishment for a sequel. Fans include new viewers excited to see star Jenna Ortega in a new horror film…” The official Warner Bros site describes the film, “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic, and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

A Spooky Celebration
The early Wednesday and Thursday previews of the film racked up a total of twelve million dollars with Friday alone bringing in forty-two million. An amazing accomplishment at the box office, the film has also been continuing a streak of great ratings. Deadline reports that the film is holding the widest release of the year at 4,500 theaters including IMAX, 4DX, Dolby, Dbox, and PLFs.
Despite the writer’s strike, a thirty-year gap, and a reputation of Hollywood films having rough sequels, Burton’s sequel is not only racking up the dollars but is also proving that sometimes sequels are a good idea.
The Warner Bros. Pictures film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is now playing in theaters.
