Miley Cyrus’s hit song, ‘Flowers,’ a two-time Grammy Award winner, has become the center of controversy as she faces accusations of copying elements from Bruno Mars’s track ‘When I Was Your Man.’ The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles on Monday, surprised many fans. Although the claims target Mars’s song, he is not listed as a plaintiff. Instead, Tempo Music Investments has alleged that ‘Flowers’ includes unauthorized elements from ‘When I Was Your Man.’ The lawsuit also names major companies like Sony Music Publishing, Apple, Target, and Walmart for selling and distributing the song. Additionally, the co-writers of ‘Flowers,’ Gregory Hein, and Michael Pollack, have been implicated in the case. Additionally, neither Cyrus nor Mars has issued any public statements or comments about the situation.

What The Lawsuit States
The lawsuit asserts that fans of Bruno Mars would likely agree that Miley Cyrus’s success with ‘Flowers’ would not have been possible without drawing from ‘When I Was Your Man.’ According to legal claims, ‘Flowers’ allegedly mirrors Mars’s track’s numerous melodic, harmonic, and lyrical elements. The lawsuit details similarities including the melodic pitch design and verse sequence, the connecting bass line, specific bars of the chorus, certain dramatic musical elements, and particular chord progressions. It also points to overlapping lyrical themes and stylistic choices that echo Mars’s song. The plaintiff argues that ‘Flowers’ would not have achieved notable success such as winning two Grammy Awards or topping the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks without the alleged influences from ‘When I Was Your Man.’
