‘The Corrections’ Series Adaptation Will Star Meryl Streep

The Big Screen Star Goes to the Small Screen

Over her career, Meryl Streep has starred in many classics and brought other adaptations to life. She began the next chapter with her upcoming series, adapting Johnathan Franzen’s The Corrections.

Meryl Streep’s Latest Endeavor

According to Deadline, Meryl Streep announced her latest series role. She will star as the lead in the upcoming adaptation of Johnathan Franzen’s bestseller The Corrections. CBS Studios, a subsidiary of Paramount, will produce the series under the helm of Mark Roybal and Nicole Clemens. However, no other information has been released yet.

Furthermore, Streep earned her career as a legendary star. She holds the record for most nominations for Best Actress at the Academy Awards, with seventeen in total and two wins. Moreover, her most recent was 2017’s The Post. She recently starred in the 2022 black comedy Don’t Look Up and lent her voice to a cameo in the climate change drama Extrapolations.

‘The Corrections’ By Johnathan Franzen

In 2001, prolific author Johnathan Franzen released one of his most acclaimed works, The Corrections. Additionally, the book follows an elderly midwestern couple and their strained relationship with their adult children over half a century.

Furthermore, the novel provides a grounded insight into the changing social landscape. To this day, it is considered a modern classic and has been critically acclaimed.

The book was praised for its postmodernism style and deconstruction of generational gaps. Furthermore, this series could provide a timely message in an age when social media has polarized different age groups. While Streep’s role remains unconfirmed, she will almost certainly play Enid Lambert, the elderly matriarch of the family in the book.

The Adaptation’s Production

Despite the novel’s success, it faced a troubled production while trying to take off. As early as 2002, the book was in talks for a proper adaptation. However, it wasn’t until a decade later that HBO attempted to create a pilot. Additionally, Barbie writer Noah Baumbach would have directed it and would star Chris Cooper, Rhys Ifans, Greta Gerwig, and even Ewan McGregor. However, it was quietly canceled before its release.

The fact that studios went to such lengths to adapt the book shows how confident they are in the success of such a work. Therefore, Meryl Streep and the rest of CBS must do their best to bring The Corrections to this new generation.
