The Killer Doll Series Gets Axed
After the cancellation of Reginald the Vampire in July, deliberation began about the future of Chucky. Although there was discussion of a condensed last season or even a movie that would conclude the story, Chucky will be discontinued after three seasons.
Fallout
Much of the cult following (no pun intended) from the film franchise followed the killer doll’s transition to television. Despite part one of season 3 achieving record viewership with adults 18 through 49 last fall, the series struggled to gain traction with newer audiences. Since developing the screenplay for the first Chucky film, Chucky series creator and showrunner, Don Mancini has been involved in nearly all media associated with the character. The 2019 Child’s Play reboot stands as the only movie in which he wasn’t directly involved. Upon the announcement, Mancini took to Twitter (Now X), to share a headline and simply wrote, “HE’LL BE BACK.” A #RenewChucky hashtag had been circulating on X for the past few months, leading up to the cancellation. Cast member, Jennifer Tilly even took a moment to thank fans for their support saying, “Without your loyalty and tenacity Chucky would never have endured for thirty years!”

Syfy
Without any formal announcements, Mancini appears to be confident that the story will continue elsewhere. Chucky aired on both Syfy and USA Network, but Syfy’s programming still struggles to find flagship titles in the horror genre. SurrealEstate was renewed for a third season while Paranormal Witness reruns continue to air on the network. Syfy now puts its entire support behind its upcoming series, Revival — an adaptation from the popular American horror comic series that concluded in 2017 after 47 issues. The story follows the recently deceased of a small town in Wisconsin come back to life in a phenomenon that authorities struggle to find a cause for. The revived are immortal and heal from any wounds, as they navigate the world of the living with occasional violent outbursts. The series is set to premiere in 2025. A specific date has yet to be announced.
