‘Beatles ’64’ Disney+’s Doc Coming In November

Brand New Footage with Martin Scorsese Producing

During a lifetime of creating some of the most spectacular films ever known and working previously on a film for a member of the most popular music group of all time, it is only fitting that Martin Scorsese was chosen to produce Disney+’s newest documentary. Beatles ‘64 will explore the lives of the British rock band as their fame erupted before the world’s eyes.

What We Know

On October 14, Disney+ announced that they will be releasing the new documentary surrounding The Beatles and with it announced some of the crew. Martin Scorsese (known for The Irishman and Shutter Island) has been announced to produce this film, making it his second documentary to include The Beatles after his George Harrison centered film in 2011 titled George Harrison: Living In The Material World. David Tedeschi (known for The 50 Year Argument and Public Speaking) will be directing. Other producers along with Scorsese include Margaret Bodde, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, Mikaela Beardsley, and even band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

According to Disney+, the synopsis is as follows, “On February 7, 1964, The Beatles arrived in New York City to unprecedented excitement and hysteria. From the instant they landed at Kennedy Airport, met by thousands of fans, Beatlemania swept New York and the entire country.

Their thrilling debut performance on The Ed Sullivan Show captivated more than 73 million viewers, the most-watched television event of its time. Beatles ’64 presents the spectacle but also tells a more intimate, behind-the-scenes story, capturing the camaraderie of John, Paul, George, and Ringo as they experienced unimaginable fame.”

Projected Impact

Though the story of The Beatles is not a new one, this documentary will feature never-before-seen footage of the band members as they arrive in the United States as well as restored in 4K performances and new interviews of the living members of the band. According to Deadline, “seven American Beatles albums have been analog cut for 180-gram audiophile vinyl from their original mono master tapes for global release on November 22,2024 by Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe.”

With celebrities such as Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, and Prince Harry coming out in recent years about their struggles with mental health, this new documentary will be an interesting watch to see not only how the rock and roll band dealt with their fame in their peak years, but also how the remaining band members are reflecting on those times. Beatles ‘64 is set to release on November 29 of this year.
