Zach Snyder Rejoins Netflix On New Project

Snyder is Back In A Radical Departure From Previous Films

Fresh off the Rebel Moon series, Zack Snyder is back with Netflix for a new project. According to Deadline, Snyder’s upcoming feature will focus on the Los Angeles Police Department with more grounded realism than his recent films. Snyder may have had a tough run late after Rebel Moon, and the sequel did not meet commercial expectations. However, these films did have a strong showing on Netflix with high viewership. In addition, Snyder helmed another Netflix film, Army of the Dead, which was the eighth highest-watched movie in Netflix’s history.

Who’s Behind It?

Penned by Snyder alongside frequent partner Kurt Johnstad (300, Rebel Moon), the film follows the LAPD, who must grapple with internal corruption. Moreover, the producers consist of Snyder’s wife and routine collaborator, Deborah, and his partner, Wesley Coller, for The Stone Quarry. Furthermore, the union between The Stone Quarry and Netflix is the fourth, with the first being Rebel Moon.

The Stone Quarry is notable for producing Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves, as well as the animated series Twilight of the Gods, which premiered on Netflix this fall.

A Concept Years In The Making

Even though the project has been newly announced, the idea has been in development for years. Recently, Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter: “Years ago, Dan [Lin, Netflix’s head of film] and I had a conversation about our shared interest in telling a compelling and visceral character-driven story set within the intense, complex and captivating landscape of the LAPD. It’s a conversation that has stuck with me.” Snyder also expressed his enthusiasm for the chance to reunite with Dan and the rest of the Netflix team. “So, as you would expect, I’m very excited to now have the opportunity to partner with Dan, along with the rest of my amazing partners at Netflix, in developing this story.”
