The Master Spy Returns
The acclaimed Daniel Craig saga of 007 films ended in 2021, and now, the franchise’s creatives are carefully deciding who to cast and what direction to take in this new saga.
‘007’ To Go in New Direction
According to Deadline, Barbara Broccoli, one of the producers of the iconic ‘007’ franchise, gave her thoughts on the upcoming reboot of the long-lasting franchise. She said they had an important decision in choosing the next James Bond and said he would be a man in his 30s and “not necessarily white.” Because the next Bond will have to lead a multi-billion dollar franchise, Barbara and the rest of MGM’s executives will likely be very careful in choosing the next actor to portray the timeless character. She described how every time the franchise rebooted, there was a new direction, and each actor who auditioned offered a unique take. As shown by the latest film saga, these films have always adapted to their eras and cultures so that fans can expect a more introspective take on the evolving character and his exploits.
Replacing Daniel Craig
Like most long-running characters, many varied actors have played the character of James Bond. Craig ended his run as Bond in 2021’s acclaimed finale, No Time to Die. After leaving the franchise, Craig starred as the equally beloved sleuth Benoit Blanc in the Knives Out films. In the same article, he was confirmed to say he “didn’t care” who played the next Bond.
The ‘James Bond’ Franchise’s Scale
Besides Paramount’s Mission Impossible franchise, 007/James Bond is the most iconic spy fiction worldwide and an icon of British pop culture. Based on Ian Fleming’s original novels, the MI6 agent has starred in twenty-seven films and several other projects. Six different actors have portrayed him over the years, starting with Sean Connery as Bond in 1962’s Dr. No.
The films popularized many of the genre’s tropes, such as high-class settings, over-the-top criminal masterminds, and a hero with various cool gadgets. Nearly every piece of spy fiction afterward took influence, including the parody franchise Austin Powers. With EON Productions still maintaining creative control, fans can be assured the series remains in capable hands.
