Blumhouse In Talks To Acquire ‘Saw’ From Twisted Pictures

‘Saw’ Franchise Seeks New Home With Blumhouse Productions

The Saw franchise is looking for a new co-home after the canceled film Saw XI. Blumhouse Productions is currently in talks to acquire the portion of the Saw franchise from Twisted Pictures.

Twisted Pictures & Blumhouse Talks

A new deal between Twisted Pictures and Blumhouse has brightened up the future of the Saw franchise. Blumhouse will be acquiring Twisted Pictures’ half of the rights to the Saw franchise. This new deal will bring producer James Wan, the director and co-writer of Saw (2004), in touch with the franchise again due to the recent merger that Wan’s company, Atomic Monster, had with Blumhouse in January 2024. According to Deadline, “Blumhouse essentially is taking over the IP’s ownership from Twisted’s Mark Burg and Oren Koules.” The publication also states that co-owner Lionsgate will continue to be involved in and own 50% of the franchise.

Failed ‘Saw XI’

The shocking acquisition of rights between Blumhouse and Twisted Pictures comes as a surprise to fans, as there were rumors swarming online social media platforms of the franchise being dead. A disagreement that Twisted Pictures had with Lionsgate over the planned film Saw XI left the franchise’s future in peril.

Saw XI was supposed to be the eleventh installment of the franchise that was set to release on September 26, 2025, before being pulled from the release schedule due to creative differences. The film had Kevin Greutert set to direct and Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to write the script. It is unclear what caused the disagreement, and no information on the storyline of the eleventh film had been released at the time of the stalling of the film.

The Continuation of ‘Saw’

The Saw franchise follows notorious serial killer John Kramer, also known as Jigsaw, and his henchmen. But instead of killing his victims himself, he sets them up in life-threatening traps where they have to survive physical and psychological torture. The franchise has grossed over $1 billion globally from not only the films but also comic books, video games, clothes, and even theme park attractions. There is no information on whether the new acquisition of rights will restart development on Saw XI. Furthermore, it is unclear if a new story or even a television series will come out of this new franchise update.
