J.K. Rowling and HBO Team Up
It has been 14 years since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and after all this time, Harry Potter is back. According to Deadline, HBO is producing a new TV series featuring the wizarding world, set to start production this year and air sometime next year. Now, J.K. Rowling is raving about the script.
Journey Back to Hogwarts
HBO announced a Harry Potter series back in April of 2023. The show will follow Harry Potter from the very beginning. It is an adaptation of the original book series. It will start with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and end with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The show will have a new way of bringing the wizarding world to life through episodes instead of movies, according to J.K. Rowling.
J.K. Rowling Backs the Show
Rowling tweeted on June 21, 2025, saying, “I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series, and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD!”. According to Deadline, “she worked closely” with the writers’ room of the Warner Bros. Discovery series. This means Rowling herself helped craft the story for the new show..
When Will it be Released?
The show should start production in 2025. According to TV Insider, “the television series is slated to debut on the Max streaming service in 2026.” The closer we get to 2026, the more information will be available.
