Lucy Liu Awarded At Bentonville Film Festival

Lucy Liu Rises to the Challenge!

The summer film festival season has begun. Actress-producer Lucy Liu has headed into this summer winning awards. Liu received the Rising to the Challenge Award at the Bentonville Film Festival on June 21.

Lucy Liu Wins The Challenge Award

On June 21, actress-producer Lucy Liu, known for her voice acting of the character Viper in the Kung Fu Panda (2008-2016) series and as the character Kitty Baxter in Chicago (2002), was awarded the Rising to the Challenge Award at the Bentonville Film Festival. According to the Bentonville Film Festival, the awards “recognize artists who champion storytelling, break barriers, and broaden representation.” In a conversation with Deadline, Liu said that the Rising to the Challenge Award was “very meaningful because it’s something that’s about diversity and about bringing stories to the forefront. Knowing that this particular story [Rosemead] is all about that, it is exactly connected, and so it’s aligned in the best way possible.”

‘Rosemead’

The Rising to the Challenge Award is not the only award that Lucy Liu won at the film festival. Rosemead, a new drama that was produced by and starred Liu, won Best Narrative. The film, directed by Eric Lin, is about a Chinese immigrant named Irene (Lucy Liu) who faces a personal health crisis while worrying about her son, whose mental health is deteriorating due to schizophrenia.

The film captures the essence of the reality that motherhood brings, including the terrifying worry that mothers have when their child is suffering. The film is based on true events in the San Gabriel Valley. The film premiered in early June at the Tribeca Festival. In August, Rosemead will hold its international premiere at the Locarno Film Festival.
