‘Monster’ Season 4 to Focus On Lizzie Borden

Netflix Announces Lizzie Borden ‘Monster’ Season

Netflix made a surprising announcement for their popular biographical crime drama anthology series, Monster, also known as Monsters in Season 2. The streaming giant has announced that Monster Season 4 is in the works and will focus on killer Lizzie Borden.

Season 4 Announcement

Despite Monster Season 3 not having set a premiere date, Netflix decided to silently announce that the Ryan Murphy-produced series has a Season 4 in the works. The series follows the lives of a killer or killers each season. According to Variety, sources close to the production stated that the streaming giant will have Season 4 focus on Lizzie Borden, a woman who was acquitted of the axe murders of her mother and father in 1892. Season 4 will be the earliest dated case in the show’s history, as Season 1 took place from 1978 to 1991, Season 2 took place in the 1990s, and Season 3 will take place from the 1940s to the 1960s. The fourth season is currently prepping for a fall shoot. No official Season 4 announcement has been made by Netflix or Ryan Murphy on social media.

Who Is Lizzie Borden?

Season 4 of Monster will focus on Lizzie Borden. Borden was a woman who lived in Massachusetts in the late 1800s. She was born into a wealthy, influential family in Fall River, Massachusetts. She lived with her sister Emma, father Andrew, and stepmother Abby.

Her father and stepmother were both killed with an axe on August 4, 1892. While being questioned by police, Borden had contradicted herself, leading police to believe that she was the one who wielded the axe. She was accused of killing her father and stepmother and was put on trial. She was later acquitted of all charges. Borden’s case is one of the most controversial and infamous cases in American history.

Seasons 1 Through 3

Monster premiered on Netflix in September 2022. The show was initially supposed to be a limited series. The success of the first season caused the producers and Netflix to renew the show for multiple seasons. Season 1 told the story of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Dahmer terrorized Wisconsin and Ohio from the late 1970s to the early 1990s until he was apprehended and sentenced to life in prison, but was ultimately killed in prison. Season 2 was released in September 2024. This season followed the infamous case of Lyle and Erik Menendez. The two brothers had killed their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989. The brothers were sentenced to life in prison in 1996. The third season has yet to have a release date set. It will feature the killer Ed Gein, who is known as the Butcher of Plainfield and the Plainfield Ghoul. He reigned with terror in Wisconsin from 1947 to 1957.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Monster are available to watch on Netflix.
