Medical Science Roars in ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’
Jurassic World: Rebirth is a 2025 American film that combines science fiction and action. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards, written by David Koepp, and produced by Universal Studios. It is the fourth installment of the Jurassic World films and the seventh installment of the Jurassic Park franchise.
Welcome Back to Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park is back with the seventh installment of the franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth. This film is a standalone sequel to Jurassic World: Domination. A standalone sequel is when a film follows the same concept of the films that came before it, but does not continue the plot or have the same cast. The film is centered in a world where dinosaurs live around the equator, which provides the last viable climate for them to survive. A team travels to an island that houses a research facility to collect samples of three of the largest prehistoric animals. Overall, the plot of the film was engaging and kept eyes on the screen throughout the whole film. Audiences are intrigued by whether the characters will get hurt by the dinosaurs, what will happen to the family that was abandoned on a shipwreck, and if the team will get the samples. The pacing of the film was slow at times, especially towards the middle of the film. But it quickly gets to the action on the island with scenes of dinosaur attacks and adventuring to find samples of dinosaur DNA. This is the first film where the T. rex does not get into a fight with another dinosaur, which was a welcome change. This installment of Jurassic World is full of betrayals, laughs, cries, and heart-stopping moments. It is different than the other installments because it is not about hunting down the dinosaurs to stop them from attacking people, but now to find them and get samples of their DNA for scientific purposes.
A Star-Studded Cast of Dinosaur Enthusiasts
The newest Jurassic World film introduces a new cast of characters into the universe. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, and Ed Skrein. Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Fly Me to the Moon) plays Zora Bennett, who is an expert on concealing the identity of a person involved in an undercover operation. Johansson’s acting creates a strong atmosphere of leadership for her character. She shows that her character is at first apprehensive of the proposition of going to track down dinosaurs, but then, throughout the adventure, she becomes the unintentional leader. The best part of Johansson’s acting throughout the film is that the audience can feel her emotions if Zora is doing the right thing by helping Martin Krebs. Krebs is played by Rupert Friend (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Anatomy of a Scandal). Martin Krebs is a representative for a pharmaceutical company, ParkerGenix. Friend’s character Krebbs becomes the villain of the story. Friend’s acting ensures the audience knows that he will do whatever it takes to get the dinosaur samples for his company.
Audrina Miranda is a newcomer to the big screen, playing the youngest daughter of the Delgado family, who gets stranded in the ocean after the shipwreck, Isabella. Miranda is the youngest member of the cast but one of the strongest overall. She plays the character of the traumatized little girl with an image that all dinosaurs are trying to kill them until she meets a young Aquilops named Dolores. Finally, the paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis is played by British actor Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Wicked). Bailey has some hilarious and geeky moments in the film. He also did an incredible American accent for his role as Dr. Loomis.
Making The Dinosaurs: A Work of CGI and Cinematography
Jurassic World: Rebirth has some interesting aspects of cinematography and well–done CGI. The filming of the film is unique because the production team added the same aspects that Steven Spielberg, the director of the first Jurassic Park film, did by shooting in 35mm film. The scenes in the jungle were filmed using a technique called day-for-night. This reduced the lighting complexity in remote locations to make the scene look like it was being filmed at night. The production team also made an intriguing decision to film in Thailand to create the illusion of the island of Ile Saint-Hubert. The country’s landscape was breathtaking and ideal to create scenes like the T. rex river raft scene and the field where the team located the Titanosaurus. At a small fishing village in Thailand, the filming took place for the beach bar scene where Duncan is introduced to the audience. The dinosaurs in the film were created using CGI. Industrial Light & Magic returned to handle the CGI aspect of the film. Unfortunately, the film had a limited period for pre-production, so the crew of the film was not able to make time for heavy usage of animatronics to aid the actors in scenes. This aspect was left out of the production of this film. But physical materials, such as practical dinosaur parts like heads and claws, were used to aid the actors. Finally, the designs of the mutant dinosaurs were compelling. Distortus rex, also known as D. rex, was inspired by popular movie animals such as the xenomorphs from Alien and the rancors from Star Wars. While other film animals inspired the D. rex, the other mutant dinosaurs were inspired by real-life dinosaurs, such as the pterosaur and the velociraptor.
Roaring Into The Theater
Overall, the plot, cinematography, and acting made Jurassic World Rebirth a well-constructed and engrossing film. This film is a wonderful watch for families, friends, and dinosaur lovers. It is worth watching in theaters, especially in 3D. Jurassic World Rebirth was released in theaters on July 2, 2025, and has a running time of about 133 minutes. The film has grossed about $569.1 million at the box office so far, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2025, so it will not be leaving the theater anytime soon.
