A New Indie Thriller
I Saw the TV Glow star Jack Haven will appear alongside Janeane Garofalo in Peter Collins Campbell’s new indie thriller Grind. The dark comedy thriller is set to start shooting in New York City this October.
Hustle-Culture Horrors
After their Independent Spirit Award nomination for A24’s I Saw the TV Glow, Haven is set to play Ricky, a Manhattan food delivery driver desperately attempting to make his entire rent in a single night. Haven is also known for their role as Casey Gardner in the Netflix series Atypical and as Riley in Gabriel Abrantes’ film Amelia’s Children. Their directorial debut, October Crow, was shown at The Uncanny Film Festival in Cannes earlier this year. Garofalo, known for Wet Hot American Summer and Ratatouille, has not had her role confirmed. Fusion Entertainment and Gersh represent Haven, while Independent Artists Media and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller represent Garofalo.
Dark Comedy Crew
According to Cinereach, Grind will be produced by Bethany McHugh for Affects Next Day Work, with Phillip Engelhorn serving as executive producer. Campell, on Haven’s casting, told Deadline, “Jack is the kind of chameleonic actor that you don’t see very often anymore, and having them anchor this film and go up against actors like Janeane, who have such commanding, magnetic presence, is going to be so much fun to watch. I think what we’re seeing in the movies right now is an appetite for something really different, and audiences are ready for stuff that’s weirder, funnier, and more creatively ambitious than what they’re being given- it’s the only way to make sense of the world right now.” The filmmaker’s debut feature, Dimland, was released in 2021 after he began his career directing music videos and screening shorts in over 40 festivals.
