Actors From ‘Narcos’, ‘Lupin’, and ‘Game of Thrones’ Star
Natalie Dormer and Boyd Holbrook join Omar Sy for the Extraction TV series. The show builds on the success of the movie franchise. It promises high-stakes drama, vicious villains, and explosive action.
Same World, New Cast
Dormer, who plays the role of Lady Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones and also starred in The Hunger Games, joins the cast of the Extraction series. Deadline reports that the Netflix eight-episode installment is set in the same world as the action thriller movie of the same name. Sy from Lupin and Holbrook from Narcos take the lead roles in Extraction, which follows the story of a mercenary who travels to Libya on a dangerous mission to save hostages. When he encounters a camp of merciless killers, he must make risky choices while facing severe emotional wounds.
The Franchise
Glen Mazzara, who is the showrunner, writes and executive produces the Netflix show alongside Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO. Extending a successful movie franchise into a TV series doesn’t strike as new, as this is the second time it’s happening. Netflix did it first with To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, a film trilogy that birthed a hit comedy series, XO, Kitty, which has its third season in preparation.
According to Deadline, the streaming service plans to release a Peaky Blinders movie based on the popular TV series. The first of the franchise, Extraction, which Sam Hargrave directed, was based on Ande Parks’ graphic novel Ciudad, with art by Fernando Leon Gonzalez, and co-written by the Russo brothers. In the film adaptation, Chris Hemsworth plays the role of an Australian black ops mercenary who embarks on a mission to rescue an Indian drug lord’s son in Dhaka, Bangladesh, but things go sideways when he is betrayed.
The Brains Behind the Production
The franchise’s sequel, Extraction 2, came out in 2023, with the original cast returning. This time, Hemsworth’s Rake is assigned a new mission of saving the battered family of a notorious Georgian gangster from the dungeon where they are locked in. AGBO handled the production of both films. According to Deadline, other executive producers of the series, aside from Mazzara and the Russo brothers, include Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, Chris Castaldi, Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin.
