Fast Company Anthony Bourdain – Our Last Full Interview”
Sessa Steps up for Another Smashing Performance
Years after the unfortunate passing of critically acclaimed journalist and chef, Anthony Bourdain, talks of a big screen adaptation of his life are taking place. So far, not many details have been shared about the project and where it’s headed, but it was revealed recently that Dominic Sessa, star of 2023’s The Holdovers, is set to take the mantle of Bourdain for the biopic. As more knowledge of the film comes out, moviegoers are intrigued as to whether the film will do Bourdain’s life and work justice.
Director Chosen?
At this time, director Matt Johnson is in talks to helm the project. His positively received work on the film Blackberry shows his capabilities to head a film like this. The Bourdain biopic is also in talks to be produced by A24 with members from Star Thrower such as Tim White and Trevor White being included to produce the film.
Executive producer Emily Rose may be joining Johnson if he is chosen to take the the reins of the film. Some previously notable collaborations between the two are ongoing as A24 and Star Thrower just recently wrapped filming for Eternity, which stars Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen in a romantic comedy.
Star in the Making
Dominic Sessa made a name for himself in his first feature film alongside Paul Giamatti at the tail-end of 2023 with The Holdovers. He was not initially considered for any roles, but since the production was shooting at his school, the crew decided to hold some auditions for students. Sessa got the part and the audience received his performance quite positively once the film had been released.
Sessa is currently represented by CAA, Untitled, and Hansen Jacobson. Currently, Sessa is in production on Now You See Me 3, although his role is not listed on IMDB. The film is expected to be released in November 2025.
Bourdain’s Legacy
Anthony Bourdain came to light due to his prominence as a chronicler of the New York restaurant scene, from which he wrote his memoir titled: “Kitchen Confidential”. From there he would move on to the bigger things while he traveled and delved deeper into the culinary world with his successful Travel Channel series No Reservations which ran for eight seasons.
From there he would move on to his last venture, Parts Unknown, which he was the host for until he passed in 2018. Bourdain was considered by many to be an inviting person and a wealth of knowledge from which people could learn.
