Area 51 Film ‘Hello Out There’ Stars Chloe Bennet & Phil Dunster

Nope (2022) Official Universal Pictures Trailer

The Truth is Still Out There

Director’s Point of View

It doesn’t seem too long ago that people inspired by an internet meme tried to storm Area 51 in an attempt to once and for all discover the truth. Unfortunately, those hoping to get concrete evidence were disappointed after the event called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us” was thwarted, leaving alien believers with unanswered questions. Area 51 continues inspiring countless movies and television, keeping the mystery alive. Now, a new film continues to question the truth behind the base, adding fuel to the fire regarding extraterrestrial life.

Blum recently made statements to Deadline regarding the film. “This is a story about connection. How do we connect from one individual to another and from one planet to another? Humans have always looked up at the sky and wondered if anything is looking back.”

Elaborating further on the movie, Blum continued, “It has been such a joy working with this incredible team, and I’m beyond excited for the world to see what we have built together. I have always wanted to tell a story that is not only set in New Mexico but also highlights its beauty, magic, and unique strangeness. It’s a place that means a lot to me, and it was so special to work with a primarily New Mexican crew telling a New Mexican tale.”

Searching for Life

The 1970s and ’80s saw a rise in UFO and alien-centered movies, and many became box office hits. Blockbusters included classics like Alien, Close Encounters Of the Third Kind, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, The Thing, They Live, and more. Alien interests slowly made their way into television as dozens of popular series continued to feed UFO aficionados. These included series such as ALF, V, The Outer Limits, Roswell, and The X Files. There has been less interest in Hollywood making high-profile alien movies in recent decades, with the subgenre regulated to indies and direct-to-video. However, recently, there has been a slight uptick with movies such as Nope, No One Will Save You, and A Quiet Place filling the void. Even Stephen Spielberg is making another UFO movie with his upcoming project, The Dish, allowing Hello Out There to be in good company.

Hello Out There is the feature debut of writer and director Otis Blum, with production recently wrapping in New Mexico. The film stars Chloe Bennet as Minnie, a young journalist embarking on a road trip across New Mexico. Accompanying her on her journey is Phil Dunster as Rex, a punk rock guitarist recently released from rehab. Initially, their quest is to learn the truth about extraterrestrial life by probing Area 51; however, the deeper they investigate, their mission unearths more personal reasons. Hello Out There is produced by Thomas Mahoney, producer of movies such as Only The Good Survive, Wild Indian, Karma, and The Girl in the Photographs. The film is produced under Handsome Watson with Purple Intuition aiding production services.
