Universal Drops ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Trailer at Super Bowl
As companies dropped advertisements at Super Bowl LIX on February 9, several major film studios released full-length and teaser trailers for some of the year’s most anticipated films. Universal Studios dropped a new trailer during the Super Bowl for their live-action reimagining of the 2010 animated film How to Train Your Dragon.
The Super Bowl Trailer
The newly released How to Train Your Dragon trailer debuted at the beginning of Super Bowl LIX. The trailer is about 30 seconds long but is labeled as a Big Game Spot. It shows the main character Hiccup holding his hand out to pet a large dragon, who fans know is named Toothless, which has been seen in the earlier trailers. It features a voiceover of Hiccup saying, “I’m the first Viking who wouldn’t kill a dragon.” But this trailer brought a new scene to the table as viewers can see Hiccup and Toothless soaring through the sky for the first time. The viewers can watch as the trailer changes from the two soaring through the sky to the Vikings to a dragon breathing fire.
At the end of the trailer is a reveal that a new full-length trailer will be released on Wednesday, February 12.
Universal Reimagines Dreamworks ‘How to Train Your Dragon’
Universal took a step in the live-action remake direction when they announced the live-action remake version of the DreamWorks 2010 film How to Train Your Dragon in February 2023. The live-action How to Train Your Dragon will tell the same story of a young Viking boy, Hiccup, and a Night Fury dragon named Toothless who become friends against all odds. The film will take place on the Isle of Berk, which is the same setting as the original. The remake of How to Train Your Dragon is directed by Dean DeBlois, who directed and wrote the original three animated films. The cast of the film includes Nico Parker (The Last of Us), Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Bronwyn James (Wicked), and Gerard Butler, who will be reprising his role as Stoick from the animated films.
How to Train Your Dragon is only in theaters on June 13, 2025.
